Reduction in VAT

What has happened?

The chancellor has reduced the VAT rate from 17.5% to 15% from Monday 1 December 2008 for 13 months.

Will calls with just-dial instant be cheaper?

Call charges for calls made through just-dial Instant Access numbers are billed to you by your service provider and not by just-dial. Our Instant Access numbers are classed as Specialised Numbers; the price of the calls to Specialised Numbers, charged by BT, is set by the regulator. Just-dial show the rate that you would pay if you were a BT Together Option One customer inclusive of VAT at 17.5%.

BT has announced that they will pass on the benefit of this reduction in VAT to their customers from the date of the change. If you are a BT customer you will be charged less VAT on your call charges and any call set up fee.

What should I do if my service provider isnt BT?

We do expect the majority of service providers to pass on this saving to their customers. However, if you use just-dial instant from your mobile or call through a fixed line service provider other than BT then please check with your service provider for further details.

Why do just-dial continue to show the price for calls with 17.5% VAT?

BT have said that changes to their billing systems is a complex operation and have yet to publish new prices of products and services on www.bt.com.

We will continue to show the price inclusive of VAT at 17.5% until BT confirm the new prices inclusive of VAT at 15%. Following the publication of new rates from BT we will update our rates accordingly.

Please remember that BT have stated that goods provided after 1 December 2008 will be calculated at the new VAT rate so you will benefit from the reduction in VAT.
